Wasudev Mishra is a social entrepreneur currently working in the field of sustainable development in rural communities, who established a startup called "Silaigram" (stitch village).
Silaigram is an initiative to empower women, by teaching the stitching skills.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) stated by the United Nations vouches for various projects aligned with the long-term sustainability. And, Silagram is relentlessly working towards the following goals,
The apparel industry along with the fashion industry is one of the major contributors to landfills contributing to resource pollution and waste pollution. Most of such items have a short life-cycle and are eventually thrown out.
When textile clothing ends up in landfills the chemicals on the clothes, such as the dye, can cause environmental damage by leaching the chemicals into the ground.
"In India, women living in rural areas, work as laborers on farms or as undocumented workers on construction sites. Due to the population of the country, the minimum wage is so low that it is hard for people to earn "2 times of bread and butter" (minimum daily income to buy basic needs). I want to create opportunities for these women to step out! I want them to sing songs, play games and "stitch" their way to empowerment!", says Wasudev
On Crowdera, SIlaigram is raising funds for buying new and quality Sewing Machines for the underprivileged women working at their Workstation.
Silaigram empowers the less fortunate women by enhancing their Stitching skills, which in turn provide these women a better livelihood opportunities by up-cycling the waste into beautiful wearable products.
So, here is an opportunity for you to become a part of Silaigram!
